THE ROAD TO 2027: REP. MARTINS ESIN’S SCORECARD SPEAKS LOUDEST

MARCH 27TH, 2026

Rep. Martins Esin, a first-termer in the House of Representatives whose reputation precedes him, at home and in Abuja, as a highly cerebral legislator, a performer in every stretch of the imagination and a human empowerment icon, two years and nine months into his tenure is now famed as the most impactful representative of Oron/Mbo/Okobo/Udung Uko/Urueoffong Oruko Federal Constituency since the dawn of the Fourth Republic in 1999, for reasons that aren’t far-fetched.

His imprints dot the landscape of his constituency in diverse areas, particularly in infrastructure, education advancement and ICT, federal employment, agriculture, youth and women empowerment, sports, legislation and lots more.

His achievements are undeniable as he is well-reported and evidence of his exploits abound in public domain. This explains why the election-induced efforts of a few political foes to detract from his sterling record of quality performance have failed pitifully ahead of the 2027 polls.

The stakeholders of Oro Nation drawn from the political class, traditional institution, the clergy, elders, women, youth and student bodies who at a high-level meeting on 22nd March 2026, passed a vote of confidence on Rep. Esin were certainly persuaded by the legislator’s outstanding accomplishments to do so. That decision was founded on the impressively concrete evidence of the gentleman’s lofty strides in office.

Moreso, long before the stakeholders’ decision, it would be recalled that members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, professionals tasked with watching democratic mandates countrywide, had first identified Esin as a superlative performer, singling him out for decoration with an Award of Excellence for Effective Representation at the 2024 NUJ Press Week of the NUJ. Of course, that decision wasn’t unfounded, but a pointer to his good works barely a year into office.

Hence, in the buildup to the 2027 General Election, Rep. Martins Esin, with his hat confidently in the ring, seeks a second term on the strength of his performance within his first two years and nine months.

This accounts for why a few challengers who seek to oppose his reelection bid have repeatedly lost the argument in their previous attempts to diminish his efforts. Alternatively, they resort to discussing political zoning -an auxiliary factor which in any case currently counts in his favour.

On the road to 2027, Rep. Martins Esin, an accomplished corporate worker and businessman turn federal lawmaker shines as a model, with numerous unprecedented imprints across Oron Federal Constituency, particularly in the areas of employment and effective representation. His weighty scorecard speaks loudly of his formidable stature and electability, offering a clear indication of what the electorate can expect should they once again give him their mandate.

THE POWER OF DIGITAL EMPOWERMENT: The Martins Esin Blueprint

March. 29TH, 2026

Ignorance cries aloud in the marketplace, asking with misplaced certainty: “Is a laptop empowerment?”
It screams with confidence, yet knows not that it does not know.

133 laptops!

Hon. Martins Esin does not even call the gesture empowerment.

In both private and public spaces, he simply says: “I will equip Oro youths with digital tools to compete in the emerging digital economy.”

Then in four installments he gives four advanced ICT trainings and 133 laptops to his constituents.

He gives, yet refrains from grand declarations.
He acts, yet avoids blowing the trumpet of the brilliance of his vision.

But in my considered view, the donation of laptops is empowerment.

An empowerment model so clear, and measurable, it is transformative.

The American Psychological Association defines empowerment as the promotion of skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary to take greater control of one’s life.

Another perspective describes it as the process of enabling individuals to discover and claim personal power.

It is a program initiated by a person or government to encourage the advancement of an individual or people.

Therefore, by every credible definition, equipping young people with digital tools is not charity. It is not haphazard whimsical gifting.
It is strategic empowerment.

Let us reason further, guided by the enduring wisdom of the Pareto Principle, the 80/20 principle.

Assume that just 20% of the 133 beneficiaries; approximately 27 individuals, fully harness these tools and gain meaningful access to the global digital economy, an ecosystem currently valued at 28 trillion dollars.

If that 20% captures even a small fraction of that big apple, say 0.0005% of it, the result is a staggering $14 billion.

Wait a minute! Can you wrap your head around this?

There are some of us who appreciate value better in naira perspective. So let’s work for them.

Converted at ₦1,300 to the dollar, $14 billion equals to ₦18.2 trillion. That .2 is a cool ₦200 billion smiling at you.

Now imagine 27 individuals drawing such value into themselves, their families, and their community.

Is that not empowerment?
Is that not advancement?
Is that not the very essence of giving power to a people?

Hon. Martins Esin gives big gifts, yet he describes them by humble terms. That’s humility. That’s redirecting the glory away from himself.

But we can not escape the fact that Martins Esin has been deliberate in showing the way.
Yet, not all will perceive the path laid before us.

After all, value resides in the eyes and the hands of the beneficiaries.

Some will use these laptops for academic research.
Some will explore graphic design.
Others will employ them as extensions of their mobile phones.
And a determined few will journey further into coding, digital enterprise, global freelancing, and other forms of cyber innovations.

Regardless of the path chosen, it is undeniable that a life touched by technology is a life repositioned for life.

Thus, I have a candid advice for my Oro family:

We must never permit ignorance to gaslight vision, nor allow shallow understanding to set the agenda for our collective development.

History teaches that the greatest transformations often begin quietly with a tool, an idea, or a seed placed in willing hands.

In a world increasingly governed by knowledge and technology, those who are equipped are those with the potential to rise.

And so, it does not matter that Hon. Martins framed his digital empowerment to Oro youths with modesty, the act stands tall as empowerment in its truest form.

Leadership is thinking rightly, acting rightly, and empowering rightly.

And leadership, when aligned with vision, always leaves a people better than it met them.

This is what Hon. Martins Esin has demonstrated with his first term as member of the House of Representatives.

This is why all men and women of goodwill and political sagacity have endorsed him for another term.

The President of the Senate, His Excellency Senator Godswill Akpabio, has given his firm commitment to ensuring full implementation of the Act upgrading the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, to the University of Maritime Studies, Oron (UMSO).

Senate President Akpabio made this assurance while receiving a high-powered Oro Nation delegation led by the Member representing Oron/Mbo/Okobo/Udung Uko/Urueoffong Oruko Federal Constituency, Rep. Martins Esin, who visited him in Abuja to press for immediate operationalisation of the new university status.

Akpabio reaffirmed that the institution had already been granted university status under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari and duly gazetted. He explained that lingering concerns over whether to retain its current structure as an academy with existing funding benefits, or to fully transit into a federal university under the Ministry of Education, necessitated further consultations.

The Senate President stated that he had earlier instructed the Senator representing Akwa Ibom South and Rep. Martins Esin to interface with Oro stakeholders and report back.
“Now that you have clearly stated your preference for a full-fledged Maritime University, I will immediately communicate this to the relevant Ministers so that the issues can be resolved, a governing council constituted, and principal officers appointed for academic activities to begin,” Akpabio assured.

Rep. Martins Esin, who chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Youth Development, noted that the people of Oro Nation and Akwa Ibom State had unanimously resolved that the Maritime Academy be upgraded to a university in accordance with the law. He recalled that as Governor, Akpabio had earlier acquired more than 100 hectares of land to support this upgrade.

“What the stakeholders of Oro Nation and Akwa Ibom State are simply asking is that the governing council of the University of Maritime Studies be constituted, the Vice-Chancellor and other principal officers appointed, so that the institution can take off,” Esin said.

Elder statesman Chief Okon Osung commended Akpabio as a consistent ally of the Oro people, recalling his role in securing federal appointments for Oro sons and ensuring recognition of the five Oro LGAs as oil-producing communities. He reiterated that Oro leaders unanimously support the full upgrade and appealed for prompt action to conclude the process.

Also in attendance were Senator Ekong Sampson (Akwa Ibom South), Hon. Patrick Umoh (Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara Federal Constituency), alongside other prominent leaders of Oro Nation.
